British Film Festival jury member

Alex De Luca

Writer, Director, Producer & Occasional Actor

Summary

Alex showed an aptitude for acting at an early age, and his first acting gig was as the Artful Dodger in "Oliver" at the Winter Gardens in Margate. On leaving school he wanted to carry on acting, but there were very little opportunities on the Southeast coast of England.

A disillusioned Alex ended up joining the Royal Air Force as a Crash Rescue Fire Fighter, where he showed great leadership skills, along with being an innovative trainer, where he used video to help train his peers and subordinates alike. It was during this time that he began making documentaries in his spare time, using the knowledge he gained while making training videos, to help him with the technology that was available to him.

Upon leaving the RAF he did a media course as part of his resettlement training, and this is where he found a love for scripted film making and cameras. Since those days he has managed to carry on with acting, not as much as he'd like, but also, he has taken on many roles on the other side of the camera; Director of Photography, Directing, Writing and Producing.

Over the years he has picked up many awards for his writing and directing and has recently had the opportunity to work as Tosca Musk's (Elon Musk's sister) 1st Assistant Director, which was a great experience. Alex has also taken the progressive step of founding his own production company "De Luca Films Ltd" which is very much in its infancy, but he has great plans for the future.
